Xiong'an New Area

President Xi called for "world vision, international standards, Chinese characteristics and high goals" in the planning and construction of the Xiongan New Area.

Established in April 2017, the area spans Xiongxian, Rongcheng and Anxin counties in the Hebei Province, covering approx. 2,000 square kilometers and is home to a population of 2 to 2.5 million people.

Located about 100 km southwest of Beijing, the Xiong'an New Area is a brand new development. Its main function is to serve as a development hub for the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei (Jingjinji) economic triangle. Additionally, certain functions of the Chinese capital are expected to migrate here, including offices of some state-owned enterprises, government agencies, and research and development facilities.

The construction of the area is described as part of the "millennium strategy". Unlike other "new areas", Xiong'an's development takes place under the direct oversight of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council.

The Xiong'an development project will be presented in conference programme on April 10, from 09:00 - 09:30.
